4 Places for Romance in the Dominican Republic
Unsurprisingly, the Dominican Republic has a lot of potential for romance. It’s become one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world, and even if honeymooning isn’t your goal, the country is guaranteed to have something you and your partner will like.
Even for a Caribbean island nation, it’s got quite a bit to offer—beautiful, romantic hotels, stunning beaches, gorgeous sunsets, exciting adventures… no matter what you and your partner are into, you’ll find something to spark up your relationship, here.
Eastern National Park
This is one of the Dominican Republic’s best attractions, due to the variety of activities and sights available. And, especially for nature lovers, it makes for a beautifully romantic getaway.
The entire area is a protected UNESCO Heritage site, and you’ll find it much better preserved and far less meddled-with than much of the rest of the island. You can see unique animals and plants that you won’t find anywhere else on the planet. There’s low-key diving available to couples who want to see the beautiful ocean life, and for those with a taste for history, there are indigenous cave arts open for viewing.
But, one of the most romantic spots is Saona Island Beach. The Dominican Republic is a hot tourist destination, so you’ll find that most beaches are crowded, making it hard to find somewhere intimate. Saona Island Beach is a bit of a trek, but it’s worth it—its remote, so you and your lover will find yourselves with very little company outside of each other.
Tortuga Bay Hotel
We make an effort to give our visitors information that they wouldn’t find elsewhere, and to sift through all the choices available to them to help them find what’ll best suit their needs.
In this one instance, our interest in giving you a good recommendation is making that first goal impossible.
Tortuga Bay Hotel comes up in just about every search for “Romantic Spots in the Dominican Republic,” and for good reason. It’s designed by Oscar de la Renta. Yes, the famous fashion designer we’ve mentioned in several other articles. The hotel has 30 rooms, each of which are superbly maintained and decorated with elegant tropical designs. Everything has amazing service (including special treatment at the Punta Cana airport).
As for things to do, your stay will include hot tubs, balconies, and terraces to have romantic moments on, and the hotel has an on-site nature reserve and a variety of great restaurants. Now, the place can be a bit expensive, but believe us—it’s worth it.
El Meson de la Cava
Yup, they’re getting another mention! We’ve talked about El Meson de la Cava in a few of our other articles, but it’s our opinion that they have a special place in this one. Why?
Well, for those of you who don’t know, El Meson de la Cava is a fantastic restaurant… located inside a natural cave.
Yes. You heard that right.
You’ll climb down a 40 foot spiral staircase to the restaurant, finding yourself in a romantically lit, incredibly dramatic atmosphere, replete with intimate corners to cozy up to your partner in. The place is perfect for anniversaries, romantic getaways, or popping big questions. And, don’t go thinking that this place is all sizzle and no steak—it’s got some of the best food in the whole country, including amazing lobster. And, hey, after you eat, snag a glass of wine and hit the terrace.
Who doesn’t love chocolate?
Well, excepting people without a heart and those with severe allergies, the answer is “no-one.” So, for most of you, ChocoMuseo will be a nice spot to check out. It’s both a museum and a chocolate store, selling artisanal chocolates that beat out just about everything you’ll find back home.
But, that’s not the selling point.
ChocoMuseo offers a free tour to teach you the history of cacao and chocolate, giving you a complete rundown of how chocolates are made and the complex history of such a simple sweet.
Oh, and that’s not even the great part.
The great part is that they offer chocolate workshops where they’ll teach you to make your own chocolate straight from the cacao beans. They have quite a few, including gems like “From cocoa bean to chocolate bar,” and the time they take varies.
Hopefully, this list has jumped the Dominican Republic up to one of your top romantic destinations. But, there’s more for you to explore, so keep your eyes open when you visit!
